Oral Presentations

There will be 10 sessions, each with a chairperson (20 minutes of overview) and two invited lecturers (35 minutes each). In addition, there will be two Round Table Discussion Forums, one featuring on "Future Directions of Chemical Dynamics" and the other on "Energy and Environmental Related Issues". For each forum, there will be two moderators and 8-10 prominent scientists as commentators. The idea is that one moderator will start the forum by giving a 15-20 minutes of his/her views on the subject, followed by the comments/questions from the commentators and/or participants. The other moderator can then either direct the discussion from different aspects or conclude the discussion. Each forum will be planned for about 1.5 hour. LCD projectors will be available. Overhead projectors will be available upon request (no later than Nov. 15, 2006). On-site computers (PC with Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2000, CD-ROM and USB ports) will also be available for PowerPoint presentations.

Poster Presentations

A board of 90 cm (H)¡Ñ150 cm (W) will be available for each poster. All posters will be displayed throughout the conference.¡@

Financial Aid
¡@

Partial support for registration fee and/or accommodation for a limited number of participants who present a poster will be available. Priority will be given to graduate students and participants from under-represented areas. Applicants should send an application letter stating his/her situation and qualification, and a recommendation letter by your supervisor (if applicable) to Dr. Jim Lin (tcd2006@sinica.edu.tw) by July 15, 2006.

Requirements:

Citizens of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands (Holland), New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K. and U.S.A. are eligible for visa-exempt entry to Taiwan for a duration of stay of 30 days if they meet the following requirements: (1) a passport valid for at least six months after entry, (2) a confirmed return air ticket or an air ticket and a visa for the next destination, and a confirmed seat reservation for departure, (3) no criminal record.

Citizens of Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovak and holders of USA passport with validity less than six months, are eligible for a landing visa to enter Taiwan for a duration of stay of 30 days. The requirements are similar to those for visa-exempt entry. For information on regulations of visa-exempt entry and landing visa, please refer to the website at        Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C.

Citizens of other countries should consult the nearest Taiwan representative office or visit the website at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C.  for information about obtaining a Taiwan (ROC) visa.

Citizens of China should contact Dr. Jim Lin (tcd2006@sinica.edu.tw) before July 1, 2006 for special arrangements.

Local Transportations

You will most likely arrive at the CKS international airport located in Taoyuan County and it is about 120 km south from the conference venue (Hotel Royal, Chiao-Hsi). Free, pre-scheduled buses will be arranged to commute between the CKS airport (and/or Taipei City) and the venue on Dec. 9 (Saturday) and Dec. 10 (Sunday) as well as from the venue to CKS airport (and/or Taipei) on Dec. 15 (Friday) and Dec. 16 (Saturday) for your convenience. Please check the conference website for the latest schedule regarding these services.

The average daily temperature ranges from 15¢XC to 20¢XC (59¢XF ~ 68¢XF) in December in Taiwan. A jacket or sweater is advisable. However, as most of the buildings are air-conditioned, it is suggested that you bring a light jacket for long sittings.

Currency and Credit Cards

The New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) is the national currency of Taiwan, Republic of China. Coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10 and 50; bills come in denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 2,000. Exchange rate: 1 USD = 30~33 NTD. Major foreign currencies can be exchanged at the CKS airport. It is the most convenient way and with a similar rate as in Taipei city. It may be not easy to change foreign currencies at Chiao-Hsi.

Hotels, department stores, airlines and major restaurants accept international credit cards, which include VISA, American Express, Diner's Club and Master Card, but traveler's checks might be accepted by only tourist-oriented shops and hotels.
